Mindfulness is a way of life. It is re-learning how to re-connect with our bodies rather than being in the head or mind all of the time, It's coming back to our original nature, which is embodied, relaxed and free.
Mindfulness is as broad as the sky or the ocean and as varied as life itself. There are various aspects to mindfulness so the traditional concept of mindfulness is focusing on the breath, the idea of being present. Some are very strict and regimented, others more relaxed.
There are a lot of people teaching mindfulness out there. It’s a big buzz-word, everyone’s doing it and everyone’s teaching it. For me, you have to be careful where you go. People go for a course, a workshop and then they teach mindfulness either as mindfulness practice or, as a psychologist, mindfulness based therapy, and there are some benefits to that but for me you can only live mindfully or teach mindfulness if you live it. I liken mindfulness to swimming. I want the person teaching me how to swim to know and love swimming. Not someone who has tried swimming and now is teaching it.
