Many people confuse acceptance with permission. They fear that if they accept their pain or the loss of a loved one, or their current limited physical condition, that they are giving that state permission to be there.
It is already present, and does not need our permission to manifest. Acceptance merely stops us from fighting the current reality.
The freedom that we get from not fighting reality is that we now have options of how we want to respond to what is happening. If we keep saying "this should not be happening.." We are stuck in a hell loop. It should not be happening, but it is. The moment we accept that it is real, we can work with it.
Acceptance of reality AS IT IS, is one of the essential components of mindfulness.
Play with acceptance for this week - notice times when you are fighting reality and experiment with accepting it and if anything changes.
